Driftwood in Wellsboro
I arrived home about 2 hours ago and started to reflect on this past weekend’s shows with Driftwood and my overall experience visiting Wellsboro, PA for the first time.
This is a small town. In 2019 the population was recorded to be 3,256. Playing shows for this community with Driftwood was a beautiful time, but before I get into it, let’s start at the Wellsboro Diner. I went to the Wellsboro Diner three times this past weekend and ordered the same thing each meal. It was Hot Cakes, Bacon, Scrambled Eggs, and a side of home fries. I felt like a champion after finishing my food. From the diner, I checked into the Sherwood Motel, a great spot to get some rest and be within 3 minutes of a walk to the downtown area.
From the motel I went to the Deane Center, a cute venue with a great sounding room. The setup was theater/cabaret style, with round tables filling about 70 percent of the floor. The front 30 percent of the floor became a standing/dancing area.
The first night went great, but the second night stands out as a special one. Something kicked into gear during the second set and the entire band was grooving and gelling so fluidly. The energy was contagious, there was a magical entity being created and it was flowing through everyone, including the audience! There truly are energies and wavelengths that we can tap into. It’s why music can heal the soul and affect us so deeply.
I met some more wonderful people who are passionate about Driftwood. Bringing joy to listeners is one of the reasons I am still a professional musician and drummer. There is nothing like a live show with a group that can tap into the magic of music making.
